My Confidence is Showing

I just returned from a committee meeting tonight, where I did a pencil drawing for their logo, and the feedback I received was nothing short of amazing. When I get compliments on my talent, I usually think, "please! there are so many that can do so much better" but I can honestly say lately I'm taking it in, taking it to heart and really feeling like I actually am a talented artist.

I wish I could put my finger on what has changed inside me. Could it be all the creative designs I've been doing? Creating my new logo and business cards? Seeing prints of my creations coming in the mail? I'm not sure, but I can say I LOVE THE FEELING! I feel like I'm finally finding my place into this art world that I've been looking in on for so many years wishing I could join in.

I'm posting another painting/paper creation I made. A good friend of mine told me today that I should think about doing more of these. They like the dimension and the toned down more earthy tones. I have to agree. Not that I don't LOVE the angels, cause I do and I'm still going to add alot more of those to the line, but I know I need my work to appeal to a broad range of people and this is another one that I can explore.

If your reading this, I want to say THANK YOU! Thanks for being interested. Thanks for taking time away from the rest of your day to think of me and my journey. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

I'm going to start a page on etsy.com as soon as chose my printing company, and get my page up and running. I'll keep you all posted on here and on facebook. :)

The Story Behind the Eyes

When I was a child (I'm gonna make a crazy guess and say I was around 7 or 8 years old) I started drawing. The main thing I remember drawing, or should I say TRACING, was coloring pages from my Garfield coloring book. I traced the one specific page so often that I can still draw it from memory today. Is this the way I believe all artists should get their start? NO. But it sure worked for me! I also really enjoyed drawing people. NOT bodies, just their faces, and the eyes were always drawn way larger and out of proportion to the rest of the features. This also has been something that I can easily do if I'm not careful when I do a portrait. The eyes are the first thing I notice when I meet someone new, or just in passing. So this doesn't surprise me. I guess "I'm an eye girl"

So when creating my new line of angel characters, of course I decided to make their eyes large and beautiful with a special sparkle or detail in each one. I feel this gives them alot of character and draws you in to their special story or meaning.

I'm posting a new angel that I finished over the weekend. She's a ragdoll angel and she also has special eyes. Check it out, and please let me know if you like her.

One of my paintings will be on The B Band's Leapyear Auction starting at 7pm. Please get on and bid on any of the items listed! Its for a wonderful cause for a wonderful friend of mine!!!!

I've always been an artist...

I knew I wanted to go to the Art Institute when I was in the 7th grade, so I guess its in my blood. I've worked as an artist for years.... off and on..... my longest break was when I worked at the Hairworks Salon doing acrylic nails... which is also an art in my book if you've seen some of the botched nails out there! I had my 2 children (Brady - 9, Olivia-6) while working part time at the salon. The hours were perfect and I worked with a wonderful group of people/friends. But once again, I was called back to the art field.

I currently am a designer for a local company which fuels my creative soul and keeps me constantly learning and growing as a computer designer. I'm very content there, but I need more!

I've decided to pursue my art in a way I've always thought about doing, but never had the guts... for different reasons. 1. I'm lacking in the confidence department, even though I'm told over and over again (esp. from my boyfriend) that I'm VERY talented. and 2. I never thought I'd have the time. I'm learning you find the time to do what you love, and where your passion lies. So this is my beginning.

I'm going to be creating different lines of artwork, from the angels I'm currently working on, to a more primitive look. I want some part of my art to touch everyone. Whether you like the country look, or a more bright, fun whimsy look, I'm hoping to create something that will make you say "OMG, I LOVE THAT"

I hope you'll check back often and see what I'm up too, and I'm sure the blog itself will be changing frequently as well, as I'm new to this and I'll be trying different layouts and adding my own design elements. :)
